Who is eligible for the NDIS?

To be eligible, you generally must be under 65 when applying, live in Australia, and have a permanent and significant disability that impacts your ability to carry out everyday activities. Eligibility is based on functional impact, not diagnosis alone.

How do I apply for the NDIS?

You apply by submitting an Access Request Form to the NDIS, supported by evidence from relevant health professionals. This evidence explains how your disability affects your day-to-day functioning. We can assist by explaining what evidence is required and guiding you through the process.

What is an NDIS plan?

An NDIS plan outlines your personal goals and the funding provided to help you work towards them. It includes different support categories and reflects your individual circumstances, needs, and priorities.

How long does an NDIS plan last?

The length of an NDIS plan depends on individual circumstances. The NDIA will discuss plan length with you during the planning process, and plans can still be reviewed or reassessed if your needs or circumstances change.

What types of supports can the NDIS fund?

The NDIS may fund supports such as personal care, in-home support, domestic assistance, community access, therapies, support coordination, assistive technology, and capacity-building supports, provided they meet NDIS funding criteria

What does “reasonable and necessary” mean?

A support is considered reasonable and necessary if it relates directly to your disability, helps you pursue your goals, represents value for money, and is not more appropriately funded by another system such as health or education.

Can I choose my own support workers and providers?

Yes. The NDIS is designed around choice and control. You can choose your providers, request support workers that suit your preferences, and change providers if your needs are not being met.

How is my NDIS funding managed?

NDIS funding can be NDIA-managed, plan-managed, self-managed, or a combination. Each option affects how providers are paid and the level of flexibility you have. We can explain these options and help you decide what works best for you.

Can I change my supports without changing my plan?

In many cases, yes. As long as the supports align with your goals and fit within your existing funding categories, you can change how your funding is used without needing a full plan review.

Does the NDIS cover medical or hospital costs?

No. The NDIS does not fund medical treatments, hospital care, GP visits, or medications. These supports are covered through Medicare and the broader health system.

What if I disagree with an NDIS decision?

If you disagree with a decision made by the NDIA, you can request an internal review. If you remain dissatisfied, you may seek an external review through the Administrative Appeals Tribunal.
